Legally Blonde Auditions

Legally Blonde Auditions Banner.jpg

LEGALLY BLONDE is the story of Elle Woods, a bubbly, blonde, pink obsessed fashion major at UCLA. With graduation around the corner Elle is expecting a proposal from her boyfriend, Warner. But instead of a ring, Warner tells Elle that she can’t measure up to the future he and his family has planned for him, and so he dumps her. Determined to win him back, with the help of her sorority sisters (and her own personal style), Elle earns her way into Harvard Law School, so she can be closer to Warner. Much to Warner’s and almost everyone else’s amazement, it turns out that Elle isn’t just some dumb bunny from Bel Air; she has a flair for the law. Elle graduates at the top of the class without ever compromising the caring authentic person that she is. The musical is based on the screenplay, Legally Blonde.

CHARACTERS (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER):

ELLE WOODS –The quintessential Valley Girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes she has more to offer than just a pretty face and bubbly personality. Age 18-25. Vocal range top: G5, bottom range is Gb2

ENSEMBLE – They play a variety of roles. Some are small individual roles and some are groups of people: A Greek Chorus, Delta Nu Members, Students, a Defense Team, Salon Folks, a Judge, a Court Stenographer, A Pool Boy, Elle’s Parents, etc. This show demands a lot from the Ensemble. They need to be able to move well, sing well and still manage to maintain unique characterizations. They also maintain the pace of the show. Age range 18 – 60.

EMMETTT FOREST – A smart and sensitive law student who takes Elle under his wing. He is charming quirky and loveable. Age range is 20-30. Vocal range top is A4, bottom is B2.

PAULETTE – Brash, caring, optimistic hair stylist who is friends with Elle and long to find a man for herself. She struggles with self-worth. Age range is 35 to 45. Vocal range top is A5, bottom is A3

PROFESSOR CALLAHAN – A pompous, sleazy and manipulative law professor at Harvard. He is highly successful, but completely immoral. Age is 45-58. Vocal range is a high of F#4 and a bottom of A2.

WARNER HUNTINGTON lll – A good-looking but shallow, arrogant guy who breaks Elle’s heart. He heads off to Harvard Law School to fulfill his destiny. Turns out his destiny isn’t all that impressive. Age range is 20 to 25. Vocal range is top, Ab4 and bottom is Eb3.

VIVIENNE KENNSINGTON – A smart, savvy, and uptight law student at Harvard. She is Warner’s fiancée. She is a snob who underestimates Elle because of her looks and demeanor. When Vivienne realizes she underestimated Elle, she becomes her friend. Age range 20-25. Vocal range is top, F5 and bottom, A3.

BROOKE WYNDAM – An exercise video mogul who is also a former Delta Nu sorority member. She is energetic, charismatic, yet currently on trial for murder. She appears very fit, like she eats Pilates for breakfast. Age range 26-38. Vocal range top is G5 and bottom is A3.

2 DOGS – Elle’s dog is traditionally played by a Chihuahua (a pocketbook dog). He has a fair amount of stage time. We care less about the breed than we care about the size, obedience level and disposition of the dogs. Elle’s dog should be easy to pick up and happy to be around people. The second dog puts in a cameo performance and only needs to look enthusiastic to see the character Paulette.

We have yet to put together a REHEARSAL SCHEDULE. We will do that once the cast is established and we know everyone’s’ conflicts. We do plan on starting rehearsals in mid-November. The initial rehearsals will focus more on staging and choreography, than music. Because this play has music and movement running throughout, rehearsals will require most of the cast at all of the rehearsals. We will do our best to be respectful of everyone’s time and work individual actors separately when possible, so people aren’t just hanging around, but sometimes things don’t work out so neatly. Please be prepared to be at rehearsals unless otherwise specified. And thank you for auditioning.
